I’ve studied leadership. I’ve taught leadership. And now I’m learning about it as if I’m an elementary student learning about it for the first time.
Business is a pertrie dish that forces an owner to explore new realms and new levels of human-ness. It’s a reason why I’ve pushed myself into it and why I love it so. It’s not just about profit. And in fact, profit itself has a reason for it’s being.
Profit is literally a measure of value and efficiencies. How efficient can I deliver value into the market place? Profit will tell me.
And when we have a team – especially a team of young, smart, vicious individuals — leadership is the only way one can build efficiencies.
And there I go again – messing up the though of leadership.
It’s not about ‘one.’ It’s about many. People follow a leader who helps them unleash themselves into the world. I think this may be why Tony Robbins has so many followers. He literally talks about unleashing human potential all the time.
To unleash someones potential means you are no managing. You are not in front of them doing things. You are not taking on the hard things to model…
Leadership actually does model first. A leader does have to have trust which means they are integrated with themselves and they follow values and prinicples which make it easy for other people to trust them. While integrated from within, they also look outward to serve. They care for others and their future.
Then finally – when internally integrated, and naturally looking to serve, they can unleash potential when building opportunities. They can challenge others because it’s from a place of love and certainty. The others may get pissed but if they’re smart and see the love they will stay and learn.
Unleashing potential is not a dramatic event. It can be – though it’s usually a subtlety. It’s an aligment of a mastermind.
It takes honesty. Courage. Faith.
And it’s not easy. And it’s much worth it.
